Refurbishing a Historical Home in Thurlestone for Holiday letting
Nestled in the heart of Thulestone, Rockhill is one of the oldest houses in the village. It's full of history, and our brief was to refurbish it to make it suitable for holiday let for eight people. As Rockhill is such a historic house, it was essential to consider furnishings that complemented its character.
The refurbishment included creating a fourth bedroom, redecorating the entire space, upgrading soft furnishings, and replacing carpets to make the house feel cosy and inviting. We created a fourth twin bedroom from the unused office room and built new stud walls, which were dry-lined to create a warm and cosy space. Thinking ahead in practical terms, it was important for the property to have a twin bedroom to ensure it had versatile guest accommodation that appealed to a wider market.
The master bedroom needed refurbishment and interior design, and we wanted to draw in the two ornate original round stained glass windows that catch the light beautifully. We created space and light throughout the house with careful colour choices in paint, soft furnishings, and carpet and changed the furniture layout to maximise the use of the room and the sea views.
Outside we created an area suitable for a BBQ and entertaining in the garden to make the most of the views of Thurlestone Rock and the sea beyond. Finally, we completed an entire procurement for the property to ensure everything was in place for the house to be ready for letting.
